and 2m depth were produced and joined together at sea for demonstration tests during 1995 to 1996, and became a large floating structure model with 300m length and 60m width. If you visit the model, you will be able to feel and observe its elastic behavior.
In the afternoon, the participants will visit the Japan Marine Science and Technology Center (JAMSTEC) next door to the Mega-Float experimental site. The JAMSTEC is now active especially for "Deep-sea Research", "Observation and Study of the Oceans" and "Development and Utilization of Coastal Seas". The main facilities there are the high pressure experimental vessel, the deep water diving simulator, the deep sea microorganism collecting and cultivating facility, and so on. If lucky, the participants can see SHINKAI6500, a famous manned submersible which can dive into the water depth of 6500m, or 10000m class ROV KAIKO which can reach the deepest point of the ocean floor.
